The Libertarian National Committee announced the creation of its new Anti-Lawfare Initiative on Wednesday, which will research and publicly expose instances of political abuse within the U.S. Justice System against American citizens.
In an email, the Libertarian National Committee stated that after petitioning President-elect Donald Trump for the release of Ross Ulbricht—stating that it received assurances of his release—it is now expanding its efforts to other individuals it believes have been unfairly targeted
and should be released. The committee said it intends to use Freedom of Information Act requests to identify and expose instances of abuse against individuals. It will then petition the President, the Department of Justice, and members of Congress for their release, in addition to coordinating public outreach campaigns to garner support.
The Libertarian National Committee is now turning its attention to Roger “Bitcoin Jesus” Ver, an early investor in cryptocurrency and former Libertarian candidate who was arrested in Spain earlier this year on U.S. tax evasion charges. According to the Libertarian National Committee, the Internal Revenue Service used a retroactive application of the law to target earnings Ver originally made from cryptocurrency, claiming he owed back taxes.
“Roger Ver’s attorney had his door kicked in and was questioned at gunpoint by law enforcement agents. If this case is allowed to go forward, it will destroy attorney-client privilege for everyone,” said Libertarian National Committee Chair Angela McArdle. “No one is safe until Roger Ver’s case has been dropped.”… More
