Queens Libertarians Honor the Passing of Tom Stevens, and 25th Anniversary of LPQC in 2019

Flushing, New York, October 31— Queens Libertarians are saddened by the loss of Dr. Tom Stevens, who has led the organization from its days as the original LPQC, until his passing last week after 13 years of Libertarian activism in Queens County and beyond. His passing occurred at the end of a month where members of the Queens Libertarians (or QL) have celebrated their 25th anniversary of activism. Services for Stevens are scheduled at the Chapey & Sons Funeral Home in Bethpage on November 1.

In honor of Stevens’ service and contributions, the organization will also hold “A Remembrance of Tom Stevens” open discussion and tribute at its November 9 monthly meeting at the Takara Sushi restaurant in Whitestone from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.  The sister of Dr. Stevens, Joanne Bair, has stated “Tom loved life and people and knowledge. He was so smart. He lived a spirited and enthusiastic life and he truly cared about people. Tom had a great sense of humor and touched so very many lives in such a positive way.”

Dr. Stevens served as truly the ‘Ironman’ of the organization over the years in turns as its Chair, Membership Secretary, state rep, and main program scheduler, as part of the successful Libertarian education speaking program QL has run through its 25 year straight history of monthly meetings. Stevens also served as Chair of the Pennsylvania Libertarian Party, as a local GOP party leader, and as a Presidential candidate of the Objectivist Party. Stevens previously was also active in the “United We Stand” movement of Ross Perot.

After joining the LP in 2003, Stevens served two terms on the LPUS Judiciary Committee, having been elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2008. He has since served as the elected Chair of the LPQC (then President of the Queens Libertarians).  Stevens was crucial in fighting off a monumental effort by the Republican Party to keep the PA LP off the ballot in 2012, for which he was commended by Third Party Watch, and 2012 LP Presidential candidate Gary Johnson.

In addition to maintaining an active email and member list in the hundreds, he organized conventions, holiday dinners, and a speaker program featuring guests over the last year including Robert Schulz, Bill Schmidt, Gary Popkin, Ron Litchman and others. QL meets (as since 1994) on the second Saturday of each month.  After their November 9 Stevens meeting, the Queens Libertarians will also hold its annual toy drive for charity, and invites Libertarians in the NYC area to attend to donate new or gently used toys. Drive Coordinator Michelle Yaskel estimates they will deliver over 170 toys, as was done last year, to several church-based children’s charities. The Queens Libertarians annual Holiday Toy Drive will be held at its meeting in Whitestone on December 14.

As for the controversies related to (or inflicted upon) Stevens and the original LPQC, QL acting head John Clifton has prepared a full background history summarizing those issues from the group’s perspective, available here:

http://www.queenslibertarians.org/past-controversies/.  In addition, in July 2019, QL members agreed upon a “solidarity statement” motion passed by the currently chartered Queens LP, that re-affirms LPQC’s complaint to the LPNY state committee from 2011 was never properly resolved. The statement in part reads, “As per a 2017 petition that dozens of LPQC members signed, the LP of Queens recommends the state committee seek to resolve the complaint or dispute with Queens Libertarians with positive and constructive actions, and to respect chapter autonomy. We note that Libertarians in Queens, old and new, will continue to raise these matters until they are resolved.”

The complete solidarity statement of the Queens LP and the Queens Libertarians may be found here:

The Queens Libertarians (formerly the original Libertarian Party of Queens County), is the authentic voice of libertarian views, activism, education and advocacy in Queens since 1994. It is not currently chartered with the Libertarian Party of New York (LPNY) due to a bylaws dispute, and over its documenting wrongful expulsions, and ongoing defamations of several Queens activists led by certain factions within the state party. QL expects its positive achievements and fully active organization is resulting in a re-merging or restoration of its status and/or members with LPNY, through a future state convention or committee. The Queens Libertarians plan to complete its conversion into a Political Action Committee in 2020.

Joanne Bair On the Passing of Tom Stevens

Dr. Stevens, President of the Queens Libertarians, suddenly passed away last week. Below is the statement of his sister, Joanne Bair:

Dear Family and Friends:

As you may know, Thomas Robert Stevens, beloved Brother, Uncle and Friend to many, passed away on the early noon of October 24, 2019. My dear brother and I were together the night before in the hospital and he looked very well and was happy He was talkative and optimistic. I have a beautiful snapshot in my mind of his smile as I waved goodbye unbeknownst that this would be the last time we would say we love each other on this Earth. Tom loved life and people and knowledge. He was so smart. He lived a spirited and enthusiastic life and he truly cared about people. Tom had a great sense of humor and touched so very many lives in such a positive way. I feel desperately lost without him but I know Tom has returned home to God the Father where we pray he enjoys true peace and joy and eternal life with my beautiful parents who I am sure welcomed him and embraced him with open arms. Tom had a big heart and a personable nature and he will never be forgotten. Tom ‘s beautiful memory lives on in all who knew him and all whose lives he touched.

Tom’s service will be held on Friday, November 1st from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Chapey & Sons Funeral Home located at 20 Hicksville Road, Bethpage, NY 11714 (516-731-5600) followed immediately by a Funeral Procession and placement of his coffin at Pinelawn Memorial Park & Garden Mausoleums in Pinelawn, New York. For those who have the time, the family would like to treat you to lunch at Chen’s located at 3056 Hempstead Turnpike, Levittown, New York 11756 (516-520-0888) immediately following the burial.

18 Years of Cover-up, and Loss of Liberty Since the 9-11 False Flag

Excerpted from his web site:

The Official Story of the Collapse of WTC Building 7 Lies in Ruins

Paul Craig Roberts

A research team at the University of Alaska’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, led by Dr. Leroy Hulsey, Dr. Zhili Quan, and Professor Feng Xiao, Department of Civil Engineering, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, released yesterday for public comment their findings from a four-year study of the

collapse of World Trade Center Building 7 on September 11, 2001.  This is the first scientific investigation of the collapse of the building.   Here is the conclusion:

“The principal conclusion of our study is that fire did not cause the collapse of WTC 7 on 9/11, contrary to the conclusions of NIST and private engineering firms that studied the collapse. The secondary conclusion of our study is that the collapse of WTC 7 was a global failure involving the near-simultaneous failure of every column in the building.”

Notice three things: (1) it has taken 18 years to get a real investigation of the destruction of a building blamed on Muslim terrorists, (2) the only way “near-simultaneous failure of every column in the building” can occur is through controlled demolition, and (3) this remarkable finding is not reported in the presstitute media.

In other words, the study is assigned to the Memory Hole.  This is the way The Matrix operates…

Roberts also qotes from a resolution by the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department (from Franklin Square, NY) on the false flag implications of this evidence:

…the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Franklin Square and Munson Fire District recognizes the significant and compelling nature of the petition before the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York reporting un-prosecuted federal crimes at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, and calling upon the United States Attorney to present that petition to a Special Grand Jury pursuant to the United States Constitution and 18 U.S.C. SS 3332(A);

Whereas, the overwhelming evidence presented in said petition demonstrates beyond any doubt that pre-planted explosives and/or incendiaries—not just airplanes and the ensuing fires—caused the destruction of the three World Trade Center buildings, killing the vast majority of the victims who perished that day…

LP of Queens Passes Solidarity Motion Concerning the Queens Libertarians

Note: The Queens LP, the county’s currently chartered Libertarian chapter of LPNY under chair Michael Arcati, approved a “solidarity” motion in late July that puts both it and the Queens Libertarians on the same page going forward concerning the controversies of the last decade. The motion (advocated for by QL members John Clifton and Sam Sloan, who attended the meeting and vote) officially expresses support and respect for the decades of work and activism of the Queens Libertarians (previously LPQC) prior to our 25th anniversary in October 2019, and revives the complaint LPQC made about disputed actions of the state committee against the previous chapter, by pointing out the issue was never properly resolved.

In turn, our organization now encourages our supporters to choose to join and support the current LP of Queens. QL hopes the positive recognition and accurate summary of our history, embodied in the statement, can allow Queens activists (disaffected by certain actions of a faction of the past LPNY state committee) to turn the page on the events of 2010-2016, that falsely disenfranchised or defamed our members and reputation. We also hope that changes made at the state level (as the party completes its evolution into an offical political party in New York state) will ensure the current motion is supported, and the past exclusion tactics, gaming of the bylaws, or violations of chapter autonomy are not repeated.

Additional language (not included in the final motion) further clarified the particulars of the concerns of previous Queens members, which read: “Those members held, and hold that the past expulsions of two of their members from LPNY, and the de-chartering of the chapter was not justified, done without real evidence or review, and under a suspect or disputed basis.” The below is the language approved by the chapter on July 30. The Queens Libertarians will more fully discuss the implications of and background behind this matter in the coming days:

LP of Queens—Queens Libertarians Solidarity Statement

1. The LP of Queens respects and supports the past and present activism of the Queens Libertarians (previously the original LPQC) and honors its 25th Anniversary in October 2019. We look forward to their development of a Libertarian Political Action Committee, and have agreed to assist them in correcting any inaccurate Wikipedia entries that described them as an inactive chapter.

2. The LP of Queens acknowledges the view of dozens of past Queens members that the complaint or dispute the previous LPQC had with certain members of the LPNY State Committee was never properly or constructively resolved, which caused disruption of activism in Queens for much of the past decade, and currently.

3. As per a 2017 petition that dozens of LPQC members signed, the LP of Queens recommends the state committee seek to resolve the complaint or dispute with Queens Libertarians with positive and constructive actions, and to respect chapter autonomy. We note that Libertarians in Queens, old and new, will continue to raise these matters until they are resolved. The Queens Libertarians formally recognizes the LP of Queens county committee as the officially chartered affiliate of LPNY.

NY State Ends Religious Exemption for Vaccinations

Note: This. Is. Not. Freedom. The issue is not supporting or opposing vaccination (although there are over one hundred peer-reviewed studies documenting adverse health outcomes resulting from the current schedule or make up of vaccines). The issue is one of forced mass vaccination, with no (or fewer) allowances for families to choose a natural immune health approach to maintain wellness. Being forcibly drugged is not health freedom.

On Thursday, the New York state legislature passed and New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law legislation (S2994A) eliminating the religious exemption parents in the state have been able to exercise to refuse state-mandated vaccinations for their children as a condition for their children attending school. This legal change leaves parents with only a narrow medical exemption given that New York had already barred use of a philosophical exemption.

The legislation will even affect many children attending private schools.

In 2015, California similarly eliminated the ability of parents to claim any exemption to vaccinations other than a medical exemption. I wrote about that legal change in articles here and here. Now there is a move in the California legislature to drastically curtail the ability of parents to obtain medical exemptions for their children.

Libertarian Views On Leadership Lessons from Trump

Join us on June 8, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at Takara Sushi in Whitestone, New York to hear Dr. Philip Ernest Schoenberg speak on the topic of “Leadership Lessons President Donald Trump Can Teach Us.”

Donald Trump is one of the most controversial presidents of all time. He is the most mysterious of political leaders. How did his background prepare him to become president? Others have dreamed of becoming president. He did it despite the opposition of the mainstream media and the political establishment from left to right. What lessons can the supporters of Trump learn to keep him in office? What lessons can the opponents of Trump learn how to kick him out of office? Learn how to apply and not apply the lessons of Donald Trump to your life and career.

The presenter is Dr. Philip Ernest Schoenberg, a college professor who has taught at various colleges in the New York area for the past twenty years. He has been a consultant to PBS on its presidential website. He is currently completing a book, entitled: “Lessons the Presidents Can Teach on Leadership,” which will be out before the end of the year.

NYC Eliminates Jail Phone Call Fees

Even de Blasio, like a broken clock, is right twice a day. Reposted from the Ron Paul Institute:

Last week, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the city had eliminated charges for phone calls made by inmates in city jails. Karen Matthews of the Associated Press reported that New York City, with this elimination of fees that had been 50 cents for the first minute and five cents for each additional minute, is the first major American city to eliminate inmates’ phone call fees.

This is a welcome move against what I described in an October of 2013 Ron Paul Institute article as “phone system monopolies that charge inmates’ families and friends exorbitant rates to communicate with their incarcerated loved ones.”

New York City is not alone in rolling back or eliminating the phone call fees. In August, for example, the Texas prison system voted to implement an over 75 percent reduction in phone call fees for Texas inmates.

De Blasio, quoted in Matthew’s Associated Press article, succinctly describes some of the benefit of eliminating the fees, stating that making the phone calls free will ensure “people in custody have the opportunity to remain connected to their lawyers, families and support networks that are so crucial to re-entry into one’s community.”
